Spring blossoms & the most adorable pit bull. Koda was such a good model for her pet photo shoot.
It is always exciting photographing a dog that is deaf, because I can't use my regular tricks to get their attention. I was up for the challenge and I got some adorable shots of Milo at the Nature Preserve, near Garfield Park in Grand Rapids this evening.

Murphy AKA Cookie Monster, would like to be your Valentine forever.
All of this snow that we've got in the last few days makes a beautiful backdrop for photos. I sure had fun with this adorable furry family playing outside yesterday. These two sure do love their pups.
There is a new "puppy" in the family. Baby Avaline has arrived and is sporting her puppy costume for Halloween.
I had the pleasure of celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of the Well Mannered Dog with Kathryn, her staff and some of her furry clients. The facility was hit by a tornado more than a year ago and everyone was so excited to get this place back up and running. There was even an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce.
Buddies Pet Photography was there to support. I personally love Well Mannered Dog and take my dogs there when they need to be boarded! The dogs get to run around and play all day and are never crated, plus there is always someone there 24 hours a day.
You can see some of Buddies Pet Photography's work displayed on the fresh new walls at The Well Mannered Dog Center. A big thank you to Kathryn, the owner, for letting me hang some of my favorites. The photos have to be hung high so that the big great danes and other dogs can't chew on the corners. :)
Hammy was an excellent model for his photo shoot the other day. It was his first trip to Kirk Park, which is a dog friendly, off leash beach on Lake Michigan. The weather was perfect for the occasion. He loved the sand and the dog watching, but was not a fan of the water.
The pups are excited about their new sibling coming in October (at least I like to think so). With two dogs, a cat and a baby our house will certainly be full of energy.
The first image is us at 15 weeks. The next two are 24 weeks along.
Every year we seem to add another member to the family. In 2012 we adopted Bella, a rescue doggie that nobody seemed to want because she was the most horrible puppy ever (at least thats what the previous owners claimed). She was really just very energetic, like any puppy I have ever met, that needed a little obedience training and some good old fashioned love. In 2013, came along Whiskey the cat that I found in the front bumper of my car! He was just a tiny little kitten that crawled up inside my car to keep warm one afternoon and survived a trip down the expressway at 75mph. 2014 was the year of Hitch, I started volunteering at the Humane Society of West Michigan and couldn't resist those adorable spotted puppy ears of this stray doggie who needed a new home. Hitch made the perfect companion for her sister Bella.
The next addition to the family won't be furry though! This October we will be celebrating a new baby in the family. Bella will have to share a birthday month with the baby, she might get a little jealous). :)
The Humane Society of West Michigan had another successful adoption event with the Puppy Pipeline and I was lucky to be there to photograph the pets yet again, but this time in their holiday gear.
70+ pets were adopted over the course of the day!! Many homes will be welcoming a furry addition to their family this holiday season.
Fall is sure one beautiful season in Michigan with the changing colors and the giant yellow tree that I have in my back yard. The plan was to rake the yard this afternoon, but my 10 month old puppy is experiencing Fall for the first time and has clearly taken a liking to it. In his mind, the yard has transformed into a giant playground with yellow tasty treats all over. He even got his 3 year old sister into it. I'm not sure who had more fun, the dogs playing or me photographing them. Needless to say, the leaves are staying for a while....I'll rake later.
Just before Labor Day, the Humane Society of West Michigan received 35 puppies via the Puppy Pipeline, which is a rescue organization that transports unwanted or abandoned dogs to a new location in the northern states . These cute little guys traveled all the way from Georgia to find their forever home. The Humane Society had lots of space for the puppies and gladly took them in. The community excitement for their arrival was outrageous. Before the end of the day all of the puppies were adopted!
As much as my schedule allows, I volunteer at the Humane Society of West Michigan and photograph the animals that are up for adoption. It is proven that the animals that have beautiful portraits posted online have a speedier adoption process, which is the overall goal. When I heard about the arrival of the puppies, my intention was to help get photographs of all of them up online for the community to see, but to my surprise there were already crowds of people lined up ready to adopt them. So in the end, I got the privilege of documenting the process and the puppies with their new owners.
It is always a good day when I get to photograph happy events like this. :)
